GAME PREVIEW: Blackfalds VS Brooks

Game Preview: The Blackfalds Bulldogs will search for their second consecutive victory Wednesday at home when they host the Brooks Bandits. The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-1 win Saturday on home ice over the Calgary Canucks. The Bulldogs find themselves in sixth in the AJHL South with their 15-23-1 record.

The Brooks Bandits will look to get back to their winning ways Wednesday in Blackfalds after dropping a 4-3 decision Saturday in Okotoks to the Oilers. The Bandits are first in the AJHL with their 37-2-1 mark.

The Bandits have won all five previous meetings with the Bulldogs this season. Brooks took the last matchup 6-3 at the Eagle Builders Centre back on Dec. 31.

Mofford: New Blackfalds Bulldogs forward Deegan Mofford notched his first AJHL goal Saturday when the Bulldogs downed the Calgary Canucks. The Rocky Mountain House, AB product made his debut last Friday in Sherwood Park. Mofford spent time in the WHL, BCHL and the HJHL before signing with the Bulldogs.

Bookman: It’s been quite the campaign for Brooks Bandits defenceman Zach Bookman. The Syracuse, NY product has 18 goals and 59 assists in 40 games. Gord Thibodeau holds the AJHL record for most assists in a season by a defenceman with 74. The former head coach of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons accomplished that feat during the 1983-84 season.

Looking Ahead: After Wednesday’s battle with Brooks, the Bulldogs will host the Spruce Grove Saints Jan. 14 and the Fort McMurray Oil Barons Jan. 15 at the Eagle Builders Centre. The Bulldogs are in the midst of a seven-game homestand and will also play three games next week in Blackfalds.
