After a season-opening loss in Brooks Friday, the Blackfalds Bulldogs responded with a 5-4 victory in Olds Saturday versus the Grizzlys, as they recorded their first win in franchise history.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board. Jayden Joly opened the scoring 1:13 into the contest on the power play. Conrad Mitchell added a marker late in the opening stanza to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Olds’ Noah Hackett scored the only goal of the second period to get his team back within one.
It was a seesaw battle Saturday as both clubs combined for six goals in the third period. Noah Hackett, Kyle Wallace and Joshua Zinger did the damage for the Grizzlys in the final frame.
Spencer Bell, Kai Matthew and Ryan Johnson scored for Blackfalds in the third. Johnson’s goal came with only 1:08 to go in regulation when he blasted the puck past Tristan Martin, who made 19 saves in the loss. Lucas Massie turned away 33 shots for his first win in the AJHL.
The Bulldogs will look for their second straight win Sept. 26 on the road in Canmore versus the Eagles.
