The Blackfalds Bulldogs lost 7-2 Friday to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons at the AJHL Showcase in Brooks.
Fort McMurray’s Nickolas de Beurs opened the scoring 8:37 into the first when he flew down the right side and beat Will Dyke upstairs. The Bulldogs tied the game at one 14:08 into the game when Nick Magis tapped home his first with Blackfalds. Jesse Burchart tallied for the Oil Barons late in the first on the power play, giving Fort McMurray a 2-1 advantage heading into the second frame.
Fort McMurray took a 3-1 lead 4:45 into the second following a Clarke Huxley goal. The Bulldogs would pull within one 8:08 into the middle stanza when Jayden Joly ripped home his second of the season in front of the net. The Oil Barons took another two-goal lead when Brandon Sacchetti recorded his second of the season with just 2:14 remaining in the second.
Ty Hipkin scored twice and Taige Harding added a goal of his own for the Oil Barons in the third period en route to the win. William Dyke made 23 saves, while Joshua Nadler turned away 29 shots for the victory. With the loss, the Bulldogs slipped to 2-3 on the season.
Blackfalds will be looking to rebound Saturday morning at the AJHL Showcase in Brooks when they meet the Bonnyville Pontiacs at 10:30 a.m. You can catch the action on the Bulldogs Radio Network with Braden Malsbury.
Following Saturday’s contest, the Bulldogs will travel to Camrose Tuesday to face the Kodiaks.
