Bulldogs fall in Fort Mac

The Blackfalds Bulldogs ended their weekend with a 5-2 loss Saturday night in Fort McMurray to the Oil Barons.

The Oil Barons opened the scoring 7:49 into the first when Brendan Wang ripped home his sixth of the season from the middle of the blue line. Fort McMurray made it a 2-0 contest 10:09 into the game after Max McCoy tallied.

Alex Danis and Tyler Wallace both scored before the second period was four minutes old as the Oil Barons led 4-0 3:12 into the middle frame.

The Bulldogs made things interesting late in the second period with a couple of goals. Ryan Johnson tallied at the 16:11 mark when he slid home his ninth of the season on the ice past Joshua Nadler, who stopped 23 shots for the win. Jason Siedem notched his second of the campaign 16:46 into the period, which made it a 4-2 contest.

Tyler Wallace added his second of the evening 4:59 into the third on the power play, giving Fort McMurray a 5-2 edge. The Bulldogs were not able to mount the comeback and they earned a weekend split up north. Joseph Young made his second start with the Bulldogs and he turned away 20 shots in the setback.

With the loss, the Bulldogs slipped to 8-12 on the season, which now has them sitting in sixth in the AJHL South.

Blackfalds will look to rebound Nov. 19 at home when they take on the Calgary Canucks. After playing 20 games without a home, the Bulldogs will finally be able to play a game at the Eagle Builders Centre. The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. Friday night.

Following next Friday’s game, the Bulldogs host the Camrose Kodiaks next Saturday night.
