Bulldogs edged by Pontiacs

The Blackfalds Bulldogs closed out their time at the AJHL Showcase Saturday in Brooks with a 5-3 loss to the Bonnyville Pontiacs.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring 10:32 into the game on the power play when Nick Magis ripped home his second of the season. The Pontiacs evened the score 13:46 into the stanza after Alex Power deked out Lucas Massie, who made 29 saves in the loss.

Blackfalds would restore its lead 3:54 into the second frame on the man advantage when Ethan Lund tipped home his first in the AJHL after Juliano Santalucia rifled the puck on net from the point. Ethan Sundar, Nicolas Beaudoin and   Michael Fairfax would all score later in the second as the Pontiacs took a 4-2 lead heading into the third.

In the final frame, Trey Funk gave Bonnyville a 5-2 lead 13:32 into the period. Blackfalds’ Jace Benvie directed home his second of the campaign just 19 seconds later to close out the scoring. Meantime, Bodee Weiss made 29 saves for the win.

With the loss, the Bulldogs slipped to 2-4 on the campaign. Blackfalds will look to rebound Tuesday night in Camrose when they meet the Kodiaks for the first time this season.
