The Blackfalds Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime Wednesday at home to the Canmore Eagles.
Issac Suppin opened the scoring 8:03 into the first frame when he beat Joe Young, who made 20 saves in a losing cause. The Bulldogs tied the game at one 10:31 into the frame when Brett Meerman fed Jason Siedem, who wired home his fourth of the season.
Blackfalds took a 2-1 advantage 23 seconds into the second period when Juliano Santalucia sent a shot on net that was eventually tipped in by Brendan Ross. The Bulldogs went up 3-1 5:45 into the period after Jayden Joly sent a rocket upstairs past Andreai Proctor-Ramirez from a sharp angle.
Ethan Schaeffer would tally twice for the Eagles before the third period was seven minutes old. Regulation solved nothing, so the Bulldogs and Eagles went into overtime tied at three. Drae Gardiner ended things 1:47 into the extra period on a partial breakaway, giving Canmore the extra point.
With the loss, the Bulldogs slipped to 10-12-1 on the season, which still has them in fifth in the AJHL South.
Blackfalds will look to rebound Friday in Drayton Valley when they meet the Thunder for the first time this season. You can catch the action on the Bulldogs Radio Network with Braden Malsbury.
Following Friday’s matchup, the Bulldogs will look for some revenge when they host the Canmore Eagles Saturday at the Eagle Builders Centre.
