Bulldogs defeat Canucks

The Blackfalds Bulldogs recorded their second straight win Friday when they beat the Canucks 3-2 in Calgary.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring 6:05 into the first period when Brett Meerman banked home his third of the season. The Canucks tied the game 9:07 into the game when Caden Steinke connected on the man advantage.

Neither team would score in the second frame. Blackfalds took a 2-1 lead 3:32 into the third frame on the power play when Nick Magis knifed home his fifth of the campaign at the side of the crease. Caden Steinke added his second of the night 11:07 into the third, making it a 2-2 contest.

Ryan Johnson scored the eventual game-winner 16:26 into the third when he sent a rocket past Ty Young, who made 31 saves in the loss. Lucas Massie stopped 28 shots for his fifth victory of the season.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 7-10 on the campaign, which has them occupying fifth in the AJHL South.

The Bulldogs search for their third straight win Saturday in Brooks when they meet the Bandits for the third time this season. You can catch the action on the Bulldogs Radio Network with Braden Malsbury. The pre-game show is scheduled to get underway at 6:45 p.m.

Following Saturday’s contest, the Bulldogs will make the trek to Bonnyville next Friday and Fort McMurray next Saturday night.
