Following a 4-1 loss Friday in Grande Prairie, the Blackfalds Bulldogs rebounded with a 3-2 victory in overtime Saturday in Whitecourt versus the Wolverines.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring 3:30 into the first stanza when Tye Carriere recorded his fifth goal of the campaign. The Wolverines tied the game at one 15:47 into the second after Cooper Smyl beat Lucas Massie, who made 34 saves in the win.
Blackfalds took a 2-1 advantage 8:35 into the third frame when Carter Yarish rifled home his fourth of the season past Carson Ironside, who turned away 27 shots in the loss. With the goaltender on the bench for the extra attacker, Thomas Vela knifed home the equalizer with about 15 seconds left in regulation.
For the first time this season, the Bulldogs went to extra time. Adam Heindel ended the game 3:49 into the extra session when he sent a sneaky shot from the perimeter past Ironside.
With the win, Blackfalds improved to 6-10 on the campaign, which has them sitting in sixth in the AJHL South.
The Bulldogs will look for their second straight win Nov. 5 in Calgary when they take on the Canucks for the third time this season.
